In the “Meet the Board Member” we profile a member of our ScaleUpBoard alumni community. Today we are speaking with Class 10 alumni, Joris Tinbergen!
Joris is a ScaleUpBoard Class 10 alumni with over two decades of experience working in the tech-market. He has worked with the likes of Google and is a founder and former CEO of Cleverbase. He is currently the VP of Enterprise Matching at WCC as well as an advisor on several boards including HypherData and Labelfuse.

What is your headline?

What are you passionate about professionally?
I’m a tech optimist. I am passionate about the philosophy: “Make technology work for you.” which means to apply the possibilities of technology in a meaningful way.
What are your insights on board effectiveness that you received from going through the program?
My main insights were to enjoy board meetings: from “judgment day” to “collective creativity”. It’s all about Trust (“Rules of Engagement”) and Discipline (“Just do it”)
How do you want to add value to a board?
I would be eager to:
- Help them identify opportunities for their idea/product
- Help them be honest about underlying issues
- Help focus in Go2Market approach
If you are on or have been on a board, how did you encounter the opportunity?
I have been on several boards, including Cleverbase as a former CEO, Hypherdata and Labelfuse via an early stage VC.
What is the best piece of advice some gave to you?
Share everything! Sharing information and ideas within your organization allows everyone to add to an idea which encourages co-creation and collective brainpower.
What do you want your impact to be through your work?
Through my work I want to promote the philosophy: “Do good with data.” This means promoting mutually beneficial usage of tech and leveraging opportunities without harming privacy and control. It is important to me that we learn from data, without harming anyone in the process.
